Sarande

Situated on the shores of the Ionian Sea, in the south-west corner of Albania, Sarandë is a popular holiday resort on Albania’s “Riviera”. Many day-trippers visit it by ferry from the Greek island of Corfu, which lies just a few kilometres away.

Sarandë is one of the sunniest towns in Albania, but so far its sandy beaches have been mainly enjoyed by Albania’s own holiday makers. Its coastal promenade is lined with inviting cafés and restaurants.

Sarandë itself contains many remnants of Roman and Byzantine walls and buildings – but it also serves as an ideal jumping-off point for visiting the ruins of Butrint, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
