The national currency is Lek, in denominations of 5000, 1000, 500, 200 and 100 lek and coins of 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 lek.
Credit cards like American Express, Diners Club and Visa, are accepted by banks and the major hotels. The same is true for Travelers Checks. However, most payments are made in cash.
